I picked the leaf from my mothers garden in summer when the leaves were at their best, the Ginkgo is my favorite tree, covered in beautiful fans. I took an imprint and cast into silver, it is an exact replica. The leaf has such a lovely texture and pattern which looks fabulous in silver. I added weight to the back to make the piece more substantial, and textured the back.
The Japanese regard the gingko as “the bearer of hope.” It is also known as “the survivor” and “the living fossil.” It is one of the oldest tree species in the world and can represent longevity. Tradition has it that if you catch a ginkgo leaf as it floats to earth, you'll have good luck. Alos known as Ginko or Gingko.
